Baladweyne Teachers Screened for Hepatitis B in Awareness Campaign
Baladweyne, Somalia – The Somali Hepatitis Trust, in collaboration with Seha Gate Hospital, successfully conducted a week-long hepatitis awareness and screening campaign targeting school teachers in Baladweyne, Hiiraan Region.
The initiative offered free hepatitis B and C testing alongside subsidized hepatitis B vaccinations, focusing on one of the most at-risk groups in the community – educators who play a key role in shaping awareness among young generations.
Speaking during the campaign, health officials emphasized that hepatitis remains a silent epidemic in Somalia, with many individuals unaware of their infection status. By prioritizing teachers, the campaign aimed to multiply impact through education and knowledge transfer to students and families.
The Somali Hepatitis Trust reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national hepatitis prevention and control efforts, highlighting awareness, testing, and vaccination as key pillars toward reducing the disease burden in Somalia.
