    Our Journey

    Milestones Along the Way – Somalia Hepatitis Program

    2022
    • Establishment of the National Hepatitis Control Office within the Federal Ministry of Health.
    • Initiation of hepatitis data collection and coordination with private hospitals to understand the national burden.
    2023
    • Conducted the first National Situational Analysis of Viral Hepatitis in Somalia.
    • Commemorated the First National Hepatitis Day in Somalia, raising awareness about hepatitis prevention and testing.
    2024
    • Development and launch of Somalia's first Draft National Viral Hepatitis Policy with support from WHO and partners.
    • Organized training and awareness workshops for university students, reaching 200 students to promote hepatitis education and prevention.
    2025
    • National awareness campaign through media and social media platforms to increase public understanding of hepatitis.
    • Celebration of World Hepatitis Day 2025, including the official launch of Somalia's first National Hepatitis Elimination Strategic Plan (2025–2030).
    • Community screening and vaccination campaign reaching 5,525 people screened and 1,120 individuals vaccinated for hepatitis B.
    2026–2030
    • Implementation of the National Hepatitis Policy and Strategic Plan to scale up prevention, testing, treatment, and surveillance nationwide.
