1. Background

World Hepatitis Day 2025 was marked by Somali Hepatitis Trust (SHT) through a community campaign that combined prevention, diagnosis, and treatment support. The initiative directly responded to the hepatitis burden in Somalia and aligned with the National Hepatitis Strategic Plan 2025–2030.

2. Objectives

  • Provide subsidized Hepatitis B & C screening to at least 1,000 community members.
  • Increase vaccine uptake by offering free Hepatitis B vaccination.
  • Ensure free clinical evaluation and liver ultrasound for hepatitis-positive patients.
  • Raise public awareness about prevention and early detection.

3. Activities

  • Screening booths and vaccination stations were set up at Samakaal Hospital.
  • Around 1,000 people screened for Hepatitis B and C.
  • Free Hepatitis B vaccination offered to hundreds of participants.
  • Hepatitis-positive patients referred for free specialist consultations and liver ultrasounds.
  • Health education delivered via banners, posters, and patient talks.

4. Outcomes

  • 1,000 people screened in a week.
  • Free vaccinations improved affordability, leading to higher uptake.
  • Dozens of patients with positive results received immediate medical follow-up.
