Event Title: CME Program for University Students on Viral Hepatitis – World Hepatitis Day 2024

Date & Venue: 20 – 30 July 2024 – Medical Universitas Hall, Mogadishu

Objectives:

  1. To educate medical students on the global and Somali burden of viral hepatitis.
  2. To strengthen students’ understanding of transmission, prevention, and vaccination.
  3. To encourage student engagement in hepatitis elimination efforts in Somalia.

Activities Conducted:

  • A lecture presentation on viral hepatitis (epidemiology, structure, prevention, and management).
  • Interactive Q&A session with students.
  • Group discussions on the role of students in awareness campaigns.

Outcomes:

  • Over 300 students from medical Universities in Banadir region.
  • Increased awareness of hepatitis B and C transmission and vaccination gaps.
  • Students committed to supporting awareness campaigns within their communities.

Impact:

This CME marks a step forward in engaging Somali youth and medical trainees in hepatitis elimination. It fosters a generation of health leaders who will champion hepatitis prevention, care, and advocacy in Somalia.
