Community Awareness Program on Hepatitis Held in Hiran Region, Somalia
Beledweyne, Hiran – A major community awareness program on hepatitis and its effects on the liver was conducted in Hiran Region on 14 November 2024, organized by Hiigsi Institute in partnership with the Somali Hepatitis Trust (SHT) and Sehha Gate Hospital.
The event featured a panel discussion with medical experts, researchers, and community leaders, focusing on the burden of hepatitis B and C in Somalia, its impact on the liver, and strategies for prevention, vaccination, and treatment access.
Dozens of participants, including youth, university students, healthcare workers, and community representatives, attended the session, reflecting the growing interest in public health engagement across Somalia’s regions.
The program highlighted the importance of community awareness in breaking stigma and promoting early screening and vaccination as essential steps toward hepatitis elimination in Somalia.
